Thriving in a sustainable environment at La Gacilly

All around us, there is a living, natural laboratory. By taking inspiration from our own environment, we find solutions that respect biodiversity and make our activity more sustainable.

Agro-ecology, an infinite range of possibilities

For us, the agriculture of the future is agro-ecology. We used this model, based on synergies between organic agricultural practices and nature sciences, to grow our iconic plants at La Gacilly.

In this way, we turned our original site into a fantastic open-air laboratory where we are inventing a new, more respectful relationship between nature and our activities. From thesis publications in agro-ecology, to in vivo experiments and research in botany, we make scientific knowledge the fundamental reference point for all our actions and strategies. And it is because our activities are integrated that this learning is so relevant.

For an industry in harmony with all forms of life

Agro-ecology also strengthens our attachment to the local region by sharing land with other organic farmers. And our choice of organic farming is far from being a recent one. As early as 1997, we decided to convert our 55 ha of land to organic farming, and, two years later, we obtained certification. It changed everything. Today, this standard helps us limit our greenhouse gas emissions, recycle our organic materials and to take care of our soil thanks to a diversified rotation of crops..

In fact, the big idea behind our vision for La Gacilly is simple. We want to interact harmoniously with the local ecosystem by protecting biodiversity and taking socio-ecological restoration even further. It's possible!

WELCOME TO THE FAB LAB

Here is the new 100% immersive experience that we offer to visitors to La Gacilly: step into the shoes of an Yves Rocher manufacturing expert, specialist in botanical beauty®! The goal? (Re)connect our visiting teams to the brand's original vision and reveal our scientist's unique expertise in the lab to the wider public.

ALL TOGETHER FOR THE PLANET!

Yves Rocher is a member of 1% for the Planet for part of its activities in Brittany. It donates 1% of sales revenue from La Grée des Landes Eco-Hotel Spa, its two restaurants, its museum, its La Gacilly Institute and shop and the Houat Eclosarium to environmental associations.

THE BIG IDEA BEHIND AGRO-ECOLOGY

When we implement agricultural production, we take a natural ecosystem and transform it into an agricultural system. The idea behind agro-ecology is to take how nature works as a guide. That's how we can sustainably produce our plants while making the protection of biodiversity a priority.

TODAY

To expand our economic activity in our founding region of Brittany, we decided to bring production of herbal distillates in-house (floral waters, an essential ingredient in Yves Rocher products). Less GHG* emissions and more local expertise!

LOOKING TOWARDS 2030

Our aim is to make La Gacilly a low carbon territory by 2025. That's a big deal! So to get there, we must quickly switch to 100% renewable energy and align ourselves with the +1.5°C target recommended by the IPCC*. What about you?
