Innovation inspired by nature

OUR WINNING FORMULA IS MADE OF NATURAL INGREDIENTS

What was the main challenge for the Yves Rocher formulation team in the past five years?

At the Laboratoires de Biologie Végétale Yves Rocher, our main challenge has been to increase the natural ingredients in our formulas and the strength of our active plant ingredients to meet our consumers' expectations of effectiveness and cleanliness. It's a delicate exercise since prioritising natural ingredients can compromise the quality of our products, which must respect our skins and the planet without making concessions on effectiveness or the sensory experience. Furthermore, managing costs is essential to our approach as Yves Rocher seeks to be an affordable brand.

How has choosing naturality transformed your profession?

That's easy! It changes everything. In our perception of naturality, we are interested in how our ingredients are sourced, the social and environmental impact of our selection, and the effectiveness of our formulas. Today, we are working in full awareness. In our product development, we take into account not just the environmental aspects, but the human ones as well.

This is how we are working to strengthen the ties between human and natural ecosystems, like for our shea butter units or our work in Madagascar. In addition to our naturality, we are committed to respecting our internal ingredients policy that takes into account press, toxicology and regulatory stakes and to create formulas in compliance with the pillars of our eco- socio-formulated products charter.

How can we go even further in the future?

Building on our success (each new range we develop is more virtuous than the previous one), we are working to create a platform that consolidates all the data related to our portfolio of ingredients. This eco- socio-design tool will soon help us to make our goal of responsible formulation even more fundamental (and practical!). Having this level of information allows us to open up to the world and its challenges. This gives a lot of meaning to our jobs as formulators.
